A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
There’s something intriguing about a New Year. We open a new diary or hang a new calendar on the wall – and for a moment or two at least, the pages are blank, there’s nothing there – what opportunities lie ahead? For many of us, the turn of the year is a time of contemplation; of looking back and looking forward. Some of us may make hopeful New Year’s resolutions, others may look back at those from last year which weren’t kept. Gyms and fitness classes always have their best membership numbers in January, although they also acknowledge that many people are absent again by February! The Psalmist has advice for us “O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am! (Ps 39); or ‘So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom’ (Ps 90).
However, this new year as we look forward in Currie Kirk to another year which will bring change and challenge as well as hope and joy, let’s reflect on these words in the letter to the Corinthians which remind us of the amazing power of God to create and re-create us in love.
“From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we no longer know him in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; look, new things have come into being! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ: be reconciled to God.” (Cor 5; 16 – 20)
It is a wonderful opportunity we have – to be ambassadors for Christ in this community.
May Christ’s peace and joy be with you in 2025!
Blessings! Anne
