A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
We’ve just returned from a wonderful holiday on the Queen Mary 2 - down into the sunshine and warmth of the Caribbean. Returning to the cold has been a bit of a shock to the system. Returning so close to Christmas is also a shock as I find myself quite unprepared. I had done much of the practical preparation - writing cards; ordering food; buying and wrapping presents before we went, but I find I have missed the rhythm and reflection which the Advent Season provides. One of the things I have missed is the singing, singing in Church; carol singers in the streets; I’ve even missed the endless piped Christmas music in the supermarkets. As I was catching up on my preparation for this Sunday, the reading from Zephaniah 3 caught my attention
“Do not fear, O Zion;
do not let your hands grow weak.
17 The Lord, your God, is in your midst,
a warrior who gives victory;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
he will renew you[a] in his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing
18 as on a day of festival.”[b]
I will remove disaster from you,[c]
so that you will not bear reproach for it.
19 I will deal with all your oppressors
at that time.
And I will save the lame
and gather the outcast,
and I will change their shame into praise
and renown in all the earth.
20 At that time I will bring you home,
at the time when I gather you;
for I will make you renowned and praised
among all the peoples of the earth,
when I restore your fortunes
before your eyes, says the Lord (Zephaniah 3; 16 – 20)
– it gives a wonderful picture of God singing joyfully over God’s forgiven people. This Advent may your heart be filled with God’s joyful song of forgiveness and love.
Blessings!
Anne
