Greetings from Currie Kirk - 9th August 2024

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

This week saw the 79th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, yet there was very little mention of it, this year, in our newspapers or on our television screens. Rather the pages were full of photographs and videos of the riots on the streets of some of our towns and cities. The riots are a reminder of how quickly rumour and hatred spread even in a society like ours which has enjoyed peace for so many years. But, it is important for us not to forget Hiroshima for in the words of Antonio Guterres, Secretary- general of the United Nations ‘Nagasaki and Hiroshima remind us to put peace first every day; to work on conflict prevention and resolution, reconciliation, and dialogue; and to tackle the roots of conflict and violence.’

Jesus said to those around him

27 “But I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you; 28 bless those who curse you; pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you, and if anyone takes away what is yours, do not ask for it back again. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. (Luke 6 27 – 31)

We cannot stop the riots, but we can remember how vital it is for us, each of us, to live out Jesus words in our day to day lives.

Blessings! Anne
