A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
We are very fortunate in this hemisphere to be able to celebrate Easter in the Springtime when all around us, God’s creation is erupting into new life. Outdoor services in particular are wonderful, and I am looking forward to being with some of you in the Kirk Grounds at 9am on Easter Morning to celebrate that first Easter morning which took place in a garden. But today is Good Friday and Jesus words from John’s gospel speak powerfully to us. ‘Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.’ We face the darkness and loss of Good Friday, knowing that, just as a seed bursts into life in the darkness of the soil, so love bursts forth from the darkness of the tomb and has indeed borne much fruit. This Good Friday we will walk with the Cross from Balerno to Currie along the Water of Leith Path, to witness to our God who is prepared to face the darkness and loss of death for us. In the evening, we join our neighbours in Balerno for a Service of Tenebrae, the Service of the Shadows. Then on Easter Day as at every Easter we celebrate God’s love which has broken through the darkness of death and fills our world with hope. I wish you all a joyful Easter.
Blessings
Anne
