A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
No matter how often we read the Bible there are always passages that stand out for us in a way that they haven’t done before. This week, in my reading, I was struck by some words from the prophet Amos. In chapter 5 verse 24, he writes,
‘But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.’
For Amos and his fellow prophets righteousness and justice are not behavioural goals, they are not just things we can tick off as having done. Rather Justice and Righteousness are gifts of God which God’s people can allow to flourish and grow, or which God’s people can obstruct and overthrow. Amos wants to remind his people that righteousness and justice can become God’s life- giving presence in the world. A quick glance had the headlines in the news makes us realise how desperately our world needs righteousness and justice.
There are questions for us here, I think; questions for us as individuals and as a church community. Do we honour justice and righteousness as God’s life-giving presence in our world? What are the ways that we as Currie Kirk live out God’s justice? What other ways could we do that?
A wee reminder that the rescheduled congregational consultation on Mission will be held at 12noon on Sunday coming, Sunday 19th November. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
Blessings! Anne
