Greetings from Currie Kirk - Friday 13th June 2025

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

The time has come for me to say ‘farewell.’ As a new chapter opens ahead of Currie Kirk, I am grateful to so many people who have welcomed me and helped me over the last 21 months. There have been difficult decisions to be taken; there have been frustrating delays to be endured, but the congregation at Currie has been courageous and faithful. You have continued to care for one another and for your community. As you move into a period of greater co-operation with the congregation of Balerno, I am sure you will continue with that same courage and faith.

Let me remind you today of the story of Nehemiah and the walls of Jerusalem. After the exile, when Jerusalem and it’s Temple had been destroyed, God commanded Nehemiah, himself exiled in Babylon, to rebuild Jerusalem. Nehemiah gains permission to visit Jerusalem and what he sees moves him to tears. But, broken-hearted though he is, he doesn’t wallow in his grief but turns to God in prayer. He asks for help from unexpected sources – a foreign King. He rallies his people and despite opposition, Jerusalem is rebuilt, because the people worked together. Each person or group does a little bit – all listed in Nehemiah Chapter 3.

‘ So we rebuilt the wall, and all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.’(Nehemiah 4;6)

In our world where it sometimes seems that so much is changing; that Christianity is under threat and the Church, as we have known it lies in ruins; read the story of Nehemiah. Prayer is the starting point of all that we do. Asking for help from outsiders may well bring unexpected results. Working together, each playing our part, furthers God’s plans!

I wish you all God’s Blessings!

Anne
