A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
Remembrance Sunday approaches and every year it is poignant and for some people very difficult. This year, there hangs over all of us the horrific scenes from the Middle East; the continuing war in the cold and mud of Ukraine; then there are all the wars we hear little about in Chad, Yemen, Afghanistan, Sudan and a host of other countries. When we think that we are living through exceptionally difficult times, then we turn to the Bible and realise, through the writings of Isaiah and the prophets, through the history of Israel, even through the life of Jesus in an occupied land that human beings living in conflict and suffering is nothing new, today we simply have more sophisticated weapons to cause even greater destruction. So, pause this week, with these verses from Isaiah 25; 6 – 8 as Isaiah offers us the picture of a Feast of Reconciliation, hosted by God and open to everyone. We pray for that banquet of peace to come about.
6 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. 7 And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the covering that is spread over all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken.
Blessings! Anne
