A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
‘What’s in a name?’ A great deal, I think. Names are an important part of our identity, they carry important information about our familial, cultural and historical connections. Church names are important too. As Currie Kirk moves forward towards the Union with Balerno, how will we be known? The final decision about the name for the new congregation will be made by Presbytery and 121 and has to follow the Charity law guidelines, so it will end ‘…..Parish Church of Scotland.’ However, suggestions from the uniting congregations are welcomed and that is one of the things we will be discussing at our meeting on Sunday. We would be delighted if you came along to add to the discussion. Whatever name is chosen, God’s promise to us remains:
‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.’ (Isaiah 43)
Undoubtedly we have some turbulent waters to pass through, but in all our discussions, in all our thinking and praying, God knows our name and is with us.
Blessings!
Anne
