Greetings from Currie Kirk - 1st November 2024

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

For weeks now, the shops have been full of pumpkins, plastic and real. Cobwebs, spiders, skeletons and witches’ hats are everywhere. Many of you will have had guisers at the door, ready to sing a song or recite a poem. While Halloween has largely been taken over by the consumer market, it originates as ‘All Hallows Eve’ (hallowed meaning Holy), a time when Christians gathered in Church to hold a vigil in preparation for ‘All Hallows Day’ or as we know it now ‘All Saints Day.’

All Saints Day is time of celebration which allows us to reflect on all the Saints we have known, especially the ordinary, everyday saints, those people who influenced our own Christian journeys and brought us forward in faith. It is a time to rejoice in the Communion of Saints, to look forward to being reunited with those who have gone before us, The Book of Revelation gives us this wonderful picture.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

“See, the home of God is among mortals.
He will dwell with them;
they will be his peoples,
and God himself will be with them and be their God;
he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
Death will be no more;
mourning and crying and pain will be no more, (Revelation 21; 1 – 4)

Blessings! Anne

Worship This Sunday

Sunday 3rd November - Rev Susan Galloway - Currie Kirk at 10.30am

Intimations

Messy Church Needs You!

We will be holding an Advent Messy Church on the afternoon of Friday 13th December at the Gibson Craig Halls, and we are looking for volunteers to help with the event.  There are many ways you could be involved, advertising the event, helping with registration, preparing snacks in the kitchen, helping with one of the craft tables or just taking part in the fun of the afternoon.  A great way to get into the spirit of advent!

As we will be working with children all volunteers will have to be registered with the Church of Scotland PVG scheme, but don’t worry we still have time to register anyone who would like to take part and is not currently covered by the scheme.

Please get in touch with Susan or make contact through the church office if you would like to be involved.

We hope to hold a planning meeting, getting the whole team together on Thursday 14th November.

Come along and join in the fun, you won’t regret it!

Fresh Start

2024 Cookers for Christmas Appeal.

Sadly not everyone enjoys a Merry Christmas. For those with little or no money, replacing or purchasing a cooker or other essential white goods, can be an unaffordable luxury. Money raised from this appeal, will help those in need. Thank you to all of you who already donate, (we no longer required household soft furnishings and equipment) and thank you, also to those who support the work of Fresh Start by giving financial donations.

You do make a difference to people's lives.

Christine Wilson

Thank You

To All my Church family who attended my 90th Birthday Party on 26 October I would like to offer a big “THANK YOU” for your very generous donations in lieu of presents.  Your donations amounted to over £990.00 which will be passed on to my charities “Prostate Scotland” and “Poppy Scotland”.
