Greetings from Currie Kirk - 18th October 2024

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

This week has seen us take another step into the future with our neighbours at Balerno Parish Church. Kirk Session and Congregational votes at both Currie and Balerno were overwhelmingly in favour of the Basis of Linking and in favour of Interim Ministry.

While the background discussions have been going on for some time, this last bit has seemed to come upon us very quickly. That resulted in quite a lot of extra work for Louise Lamont, one of our Session Clerks. Especially as Isobel, our other Session Clerk and I were both on holiday for part of the period. We owe Louise our very heartfelt thanks for her efficient handling of reams of paperwork, citations, edicts and presentations.

As we look to the future, there is still much work to be done to make our eventual Union with Balerno strong, effective and outward looking. The prophet Jeremiah, writing to his people during a very difficult period in their history, reminded them, that God always wants good things for God’s people.

For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.  Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you.  When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find me, says the Lord (Jeremiah 29; 11 – 14)

Throughout Jesus life, teaching, preaching, healing, his message was about God’s love for the world. In Jesus death and resurrection, we see God’s love in action, giving of Godself to bring good and reconciliation to the world. We move forward faithfully and prayerfully into God’s future.

Blessings!

Anne
