Weekly Letter 5 - 20th October 2023

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 20th October 2023

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

The news that crosses our TV screens seems to become bleaker and more heart-rending each day. The disastrous situation in the Middle East; the ongoing drudgery and pain for the people of Ukraine; are a source of great worry to many of us. The home news of continuing economic hardship and the pressures on the NHS doesn’t make for joyful viewing either. We often feel powerless: powerless to stop war; to stop famine; to stop global warming; to stop poverty; powerless to make a difference. But, as I read them in Church on Sunday morning, I was struck anew by the importance of these words from Philippians 4 vv 6& 7

‘Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.’

We are not powerless! Day by day, hour by hour, as we are walking, sitting, driving, washing dishes, playing bridge or golf – whatever we are doing, we can be praying. In these uncertain times, we turn to God, our rock and our salvation.

Blessings!

Ann
