Greetings from Currie Kirk - 02.08.2024

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

Last week we had two of our grandchildren staying with us for a few days. One of our jaunts with them was to Cramond Island. We had shown them how to look up the safe-crossing times and explained the importance of not getting cut off. They were intrigued by the Island and very happy to explore, to enjoy a picnic and to spend time hunting for ‘sea glass.’ But every so often one of them would check ‘How long before the tide comes in?’ Clearly our tales about people being stranded by the tide had an effect. They found it difficult to comprehend what it would be like, not to be able to get back to their home comforts whenever they wanted. And the notion of being left on the island without enough food was, understandably, horrifying for two young boys!! We did get back safely, with plenty of time to spare.

How to occupy children during the holidays is a big question for all parents and many grandparents. But who could have imagined that sending children to a dance class could have led to the scenes we heard about from Southport this week. An unspeakable tragedy! An unimaginable grief! As our prayers are offered for the injured, the bereaved and the traumatised, we turn to Romans 8 for comfort and hope.

38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8; 38 – 39)

Blessings! Anne
