A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
We recently enjoyed a trip to Germany to visit a friend and colleague who lives not far from Cologne. Our friend worked in Scotland for a year in 1994 and has visited many times since. We were invited over to take part in her 60th birthday celebrations and also to teach those at the party some Scottish Ceilidh dancing. With high good humour, the assembled guests tackled ‘The Dashing White Sergeant;’ ‘Gay Gordons;’ and ‘Strip the Willow.’
Many of the guests came to speak to us about the Tartan Army and how impressive they had been on their trip to Germany. The German newspapers were full of the little acts of kindness which the football supporters had shown - carrying shopping for an older person; holding an umbrella over a local caught in the rain and so on. It’s a reminder to all of us that other people judge us by our actions rather than our words. Jesus said - 34 I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13; 34 – 35) We need to keep asking ourselves whether our actions, our love for others, show us to be Jesus’ disciples.
Blessings! Anne
