A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
Last week I was listening to a radio programme whilst travelling in the car. The interviewer was talking to people about the General Election. The list of concerns expressed by interviewees was wide-ranging. What struck me forcefully was the interviewers final question. He asked each of the interviewees in turn whether the election gave them hope. With one or two exceptions they responded ‘No! they had no hope because they didn’t believe the promises being made'. Although I am writing this before the election, by the time you read it, the results of the election will be known. It will remain to be seen what promises might be kept.
One of the joys of our faith is that we do have hope. Our hope is based on the promises, not of human beings, but on the promises of God. In the birth, ministry, death and Resurrection of Jesus, God incarnate, we see the love that underpins God’s promises. So, we have hope. Hope even when we read the newspapers and see the stories of wars, famines, destruction; even when we see the stories of cruelty and dehumanisation; even when we see the stories of the threat to our planet, we have hope. We have hope because God loved us enough to send his son to be our Saviour.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15; 13)
Blessings, Anne!
