Weekly Letter 32 - 10th May 2024

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 10th May 2024.

My apologies in the delay receiving the Weekly News Letter for the 10th May 204 due to Annual Leave. Kind Regards, Nina, Currie Kirk Office.

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

We were fortunate enough to enjoy a happy family weekend away in Crieff with our children, their spouses, and our grandchildren. Our family are energetic and are always keen to make the most of the opportunities available in the large hotel where we stay.

Some of the party were very adventurous and went on a ‘Treetop Adventure!’ Being someone who quite likes to keep their feet firmly attached to the ground, I was in awe of their antics! At times, on the treetop trail, they simply have to let go and trust that the wires and harness will hold them as the make their way from tree to tree.

From global warming to the threat of another world war; from the galloping increases in the cost of living to the changes taking place in the Church of Scotland, it seems there is very little we can control and we simply have to trust that God will hold our world as we make our way from day to day. This week (Thursday 9th) saw churches worldwide mark Ascencion Day – a day which reminds us that although Jesus was no longer present physically with his disciples in a specific area of Gallilee, Jesus is, with God and the Holy Spirit, present everywhere. Like those on the Treetop Trail, sometimes we have to just let go and trust in the God of love. St Paul wrote:

I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory about to be revealed to us.  For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God, for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its enslavement to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.  We know that the whole creation has been groaning together as it suffers together the pains of labour, and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.  For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, for who hopes for what one already sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Romans 8; 18 - 25

Blessings! Anne
