A message from our Interim Moderator
Rev Dr Anne Logan:
For the last couple of years, I have been part of an on-line book group administered by one of my former students. Each month, she suggests a category for our books, and we all choose something within the category. At the end of the month, we each post a review of the books we have chosen. It has led me to read some unexpected things as I try generally to choose books that I already have in the house to fit. In the month that invited us to read a book that has at some time been banned, I discovered that Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Ivanhoe’ was banned by Hitler’s Third Reich! The best bit about the group though, is reading through the reviews and learning what other people have been reading and have thought was worth- while. I’ve discovered a whole host of books and authors that I knew nothing about. Other people’s experiences have led me to a much richer and deeper reading life.
When those first disciples met with the Risen Jesus in Jerusalem, they went out and shared their experiences. They told other people about Jesus and the difference he had made in their lives, but not only did they tell them, they showed them. They lived their lives together with joy and enthusiasm and other people could see that these disciples had found a richer and deeper meaning in their own lives. Sometimes, I fear that we get bogged down in Church, in the grumbles, duties, and responsibilities that can always be present in a communal life, and we forget to tell people, or indeed show people how much our lives are enriched by being part of a community that worships God and tries to live out the example of our Risen Saviour.
‘Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.’ (Acts 2; 43 – 47)
Blessings! Anne

Walking Group
Next Church walk will be on Sunday 21 April. We are heading off, all being well, to Cramond Island. This will be tide dependent of course. If not suitable tide times we will either head up river towards Queensferry road or along the prom towards Leith. To decide on the day. It will be muddy etc if we make the Island so suitable footwear and sticks if required. We will need a couple of cars. Perhaps bring bottle of water and sandwich if you want.
Hope there will be a good turnout at the start of our spring/ summer timetable.
New comers most welcome or if any one just wants a one off that’s fine.
