A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:
Sometimes things turn up in unexpected places! You can imagine the surprise of the tourists visiting the Centre of Edinburgh on Sunday when this combine harvester appeared in Cathedral Square. It was brought in by a member of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland as part of Harvest Thanksgiving. A great reminder to city dwellers that as one of my colleagues put it ‘food doesn’t grow shrink wrapped on supermarket shelves.’
As I grow older, I find increasingly, that things appear in unexpected places – or, I suppose more accurately, things are not in their expected places. I am sure when I was younger, I didn’t lay things down and then forget where I had put them!!
However, sometimes people appear in unexpected places too. As the worshippers were leaving St Giles on Sunday, I was greeted by name by a lady, I couldn’t immediately place. I did remember who she was later – but she was just someone I hadn’t expected in that context.
God also appears in unexpected places. Jacob found God in his dreams; for Moses God was in a burning bush; for Mary Magdelene, God was not in a tomb but standing beside her.
