Weekly Letter 2 - 29th September 2023

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 29th September

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

This week we are looking forward to Harvest Thanksgiving – the joint service will be held in Balerno Parish Church at 10am. In Currie and Balerno we are fortunate to be close to farms and the traditional harvest. It is lovely to see the golden fields, the bales lying in rows now that the combines are finished. But the work of harvest goes on, farmers are gathering vegetable crops, carrots, swedes, potatoes, beans. There’s a wider harvest too, the apples or plums of our own gardens; the brambles in the hedgerows. It is indeed a time to be thankful for the wonderful gifts of Creation. It is a time too, to remember our impact on Creation and to consider what being thankful for Creation might mean for our day to day living. In Psalm 65 we read:

9 You visit the earth and water it;
you greatly enrich it;
the river of God is full of water;
you provide the people with grain,
for so you have prepared it.
10 You water its furrows abundantly,
 settling its ridges,
softening it with showers,
 and blessing its growth.
11 You crown the year with your bounty;
 your wagon tracks overflow with richness.
12 The pastures of the wilderness overflow;
 the hills gird themselves with joy;
13 the meadows clothe themselves with flocks;
 the valleys deck themselves with grain;
 they shout and sing together for joy.

We join our voices to Creation’s song of praise.

Blessings! Anne
