Weekly Letter 11 - 1st December 2023

Greetings from Currie Kirk - 1st December 2023

A message from our Interim Moderator Rev Dr Anne Logan:

And so it begins…………………… This week has seen the annual trip to the loft to bring down the Christmas Decorations. Bit by bit, over the next couple of weeks, we will gradually put up trees, lights, baubles and decorations until the house looks ‘Christmassy.’ Our attempts are relatively restrained, there are other properties in the village which are a feast of twinkling trees, reindeer, sleighs and Santas, delighting the local children.

On a trip to Portugal a couple of years ago, we visited the University town of Coimbra. Our guide proudly pointed out to us, the Jesuit Chapel. It is, for a Portuguese Church, very plain on the outside. Our guide explained that the Jesuits believed that their churches, like their lives, should be quite plain and ordinary on the outside, because it is the quality and richness of the Spiritual life inside that is important.

As we make things begin ‘to look a lot like Christmas’ in our homes, it is a reminder that it is not the preparations or the decorations or any of the external things that make Christmas, but love.

In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4; 10)

Blessings! Anne
