Dear Members of Currie Kirk and Balerno Parish Church,
Your joint Steering Group has been working through the process towards Union and is now at a point where we need your help.
To plan a way forward and to re-energise the new congregation we have prepared a draft Programme for Action (attached). You will see that it contains suggestions for a
high-level Vision Statement, a Strategy and some possible actions.
The Steering Group is acutely aware that it has no monopoly on new ideas, so we are inviting you to be as creative as possible in commenting on the draft programme. I think we all know that we require a fresh offer to ensure we can once again attract people of all ages to follow Christ in the new community Kirk of Currie and Balerno.
Another attachment outlines a proposed new Committee structure on which we also invite your comments. Please also indicate your willingness to join one or more of these Committees (2 maximum) - you do not need to be an Elder to do so.
Finally, the third attachment is the questionnaire which we would encourage you to complete and return to kcbsteeringgroup@yahoo.com by
15th August 2026.
(The questionnaire is a WORD file and the line spacing can be expanded to accommodate fulsome responses.)
To maximise participation, hard copies will be available from both church offices and members of the Steering Group. In the same vein, Steering Group members will be available to discuss the questionnaire and assist anyone who has difficulties completing the form.
Steering Group members will also make themselves available after both church services and at the Coffee Stop and The Mill cafes. If there is demand, drop-in sessions can be arranged at other times. Please use the Steering Group email to request a face-to-face meeting.
We really need your input to make the Union a success and we respectfully invite your thoughtful and prayerful contributions.
With thanks,
from your Steering Group
Diane Brown, Kathryn Harper, Grant Gordon, Rev Roy Henderson (Chair), Neil Johnstone, Ann Merrilees, Jean McGuire, Iain Matheson, Martin Petty.
